Social Forum is an amazing gathering that brings together the world's peoples' movements, indigenous communities, women's
movements, human rights organizations, environmentalists, intellectuals, students, activists, and citizens of the North and
South. These are the people who know that not only is another world possible, but it is happening right now. And nowhere is
this change happening more profoundly than Venezuela, home to a peaceful revolutionary process that has brought education
and healthcare to millions through the redistribution of oil profits. Global Exchange is offering four different itineraries
for our World Social Forum delegation to Venezuela: *Focus on Gender, Cultural Diversity and New Political Spaces *Focus
on Oil, Natural Resources and Sustainability *Focus on People’s Development: Health, Education and the Social Contract *Focus

Victory on Reducing Diesel Pollution From Sleeping Truckers!
Thanks to thousands of emails from UCS activists like you, and support from other residents across the state, the California
Air Resources Board voted unanimously to set a 5-minute idling limit for diesel trucks that typically idle overnight! Trucking
companies will now equip their sleeper cabs with cleaner, smaller engines or non-diesel alternatives to power air conditioning,
heating, and other amenities for sleeping truckers. Thanks to this new rule, California will save over 100 million gallons
of diesel fuel a year, prevent more than 700,000 tons of global warming emissions and thousands of tons of toxic and smog-forming
air pollution from being emitted every year, and save truckers a small fortune in fuel costs.
Thanks again for your
help and support on this issue,
Erin Rogers California Outreach Coordinator

Sample Script:
"I am calling today about the Violence Against Women's Act. I am concerned that Congressional leaders have not yet
appointed any Senators or Representatives to serve on the Conference Committee that is responsible for coming up with a final
bill for Congress to vote on before the end of the year. This legislation is very important to me. There has been a lot of
work to improve the old bill and pass improved provisions in the reauthorization of VAWA. It is not enough to extend funding
of the old VAWA. The Violence Against Women Act must be reauthorized this year to insure funds for vital services that help
victims of domestic violence. Please appoint conference committee members urgently and insure that the reauthorization of
VAWA this year is a priority. Thank you. "
Thank you in advance for making this very important phone call.
